How to improvise more and talk less

Jazz musicians say "It's the silence between the notes, that holds the key to all

music," and “it’s all about the notes you don’t play”. So what about the silence

between the words of an improv scene, the things we don’t vocalise? Sometimes we

can say more with a gesture, a grimace or a smile, or even the way we sit or stand,

than any words could convey. 

This workshop is about examining all the wonderful things that happen when we say less, and do more.  It means that players who are used in solving and driving scenes by talking, will learn other ways to play. Using the body, the imagination and the spacing of objects are forgotten treasures in improv. So discovering these tools are a major contribution to develop scenes and stories. 

 A hands-on workshop for improvisors of all levels. As too much talking is happening to all players. 

Jon Trevor is artistic director of the Birmingham Improv festival. He has started several improv-groups in his hometown Birmingham and is worldwide a known and respected teacher. He has a very practical approach to improv and has inspired hundreds of students.
